20 weeks.

So here I am, halfway through my pregnancy and just now starting a blog. Like the laundry and cleaning out the future nursery, it is something I have been meaning to do for a while. It was only this evening, after deciding that watching TV and reading was something I’d rather not do, that I finally decided to make one. I need some form of outlet other than boring anyone who will talk to me with the excitement of the pregnancy (yea, I’m definitely a first time mom!).

The pregnancy has been pretty wonderful thus far. Though it was terrible then, the roughly five weeks of constant morning sickness have long since faded and seem like a distant memory. My only complications have been low vitamin D (which is technically still kind of low – average levels are 30-100 & I am at 36) and migraines about every other day which landed me in the ER twice before my OB sent me to a neurologist. I’m now on Fioricet, which if taken when the migraine begins I am fine within 20 minutes. I don’t have much to complain about. 🙂 Now that I am well into the 2nd trimester, I am doing great!

I’m surprised at how quickly the pregnancy is flying by; it seems like just yesterday I found out. But now I have had my last ultrasound and my baby shower is right around the corner. My full time job causes the days to go by quickly. Before I know it, I’m going to be in the hospital popping this little one out!

I plan to write every week and add a bump shot or two. Depending on my level of excitement, there might be more than one post! Also, expect a questionnaire at the end of each post.

Bare bump

I can’t guarantee I will always post a picture of the bare bump, but I was feeling adventurous today!

20 week bump

This is my new favorite top. It’s a simply black maternity wife beater from Target. I’m going to need to get a few more – it’s probably the most comfortable thing I own.

Baby's arm

The little one was covering his or her face. At one point I was able to see the tiny hands splayed across his or her face. It was absolutely adorable.

Baby's profile

My big headed/bellied baby. 🙂

How far along: 20 weeks! I’m so excited to be at the midpoint! Things are happening for sure now!

Total weight gain: -7 lbs. I lost 10 lbs but have gained 3.

Maternity clothes: I still fit into pre-pregnancy jeans but they are quickly becoming tight in the tummy. I do wear maternity jeans and work pants as well as leggings frequently. I mostly prefer dresses.

Stretch marks: I have some faded ones due to weight gain and then weight loss so I honestly am not overly concerned about getting more.

Sleep: It varies. Most nights I am ready for bed by 9:30/10:00 at the latest and have been awake by 5:30 or 6:00 every morning. In regards to sleeping through the night, I toss and turn frequently and wake up at least once because of baby sitting on my bladder.

Best moment of this week: I’ll go with last Friday, since it’s only Tuesday. I got to see my little baby on the ultrasound!! It was so precious to see his/her covering his/her face with those tiny little hands. All of the fingers were there. 😉

Miss anything: Jimmy Johns. I know that chance of listeria is so small but my OB specifically told me “No deli meat!” I expect a Pepe EZ lettuce, no tomato at my bedside post-delivery. Please & thank you!

Movement: More and more every day! They are slight kicks, mostly at night, that feel like big bubbles popping in my stomach. I felt movement first at 16 weeks – a butterfly fluttering – and each week the feelings are getting stronger.

Food cravings: Root beer, milk, orange juice (now that I can keep it down!), and salad… particularly one from Golden Corral simply because of their ranch dressing. However, I will also say YES! to Texas Roadhouse & their ranch or Panera’s Greek salad dressing.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not too much anymore. The smell of seafood/fish has always made me queasy but the feeling has become intensified lately.

Have you started to show yet: Oh boy, have I?

Gender: The anatomy scan was done Friday and the sex is actually sealed away in an envelope until next Friday (10/4) when my husband returns from his TAD. A friend is making us a cake that is dyed pink or blue on the inside. We will cut into it to find out together. I won’t be sharing on here until Baby’s delivery because several family members wish to be surprised. 🙂

Labor signs: Nope.

Belly button in or out: In, but it’s making it’s way. I can pop it out pretty easily! Lol!

Wedding rings on or off: On, except at night my fingers swell and I end up taking the ring off until morning.

Happy or moody most of the time: Elated, scared, and weepy. Most of the time, I am over the moon with joy about the baby and starting a family with my husband. I do have ‘Oh shit! moments’ where I momentarily hyperventilate about the reality of this impending responsibility. I worry about doing the right thing, being a good mom, and having the financial means to provide for this innocent being. And then I start thinking about what my child will look like and his or her personality, or that moment when I see my husband lay eyes on him/her for the first time and I start to cry.

Looking forward to: finding out if we are having Roman or Ruby!
